Sania's break-up was mutual, says father

Sania Mirza's professional tennis career has been on the downslide. And now, her personal

The out-of-form player has called off her engagement with longtime
friend Sohrab Mirza on grounds of incompatibility.

Sania's father Imran Mirza confirmed the break-up on Thursday. "Sania has already said there was incompatibility between the two. They came to us and informed. The families have known each other for half a century, so the decision was mutually agreed upon," he said.

According to Sania's aunt Hamida Shaifi, "They broke up because they didn't get along. This has nothing to do with Sania's busy schedule in professional tennis."

The announcement, which was made as Sania crashed out of the Australian Open, comes as a surprise. Just days before the Australian Open, Sania had announced that she would quit tennis once she got
married.

"Priorities change in many ways after
marriage. If I had to keep playing tennis and travel 35 weeks a year, why get married," she had said.

Sohrab is
studying in the UK. While it's not clear what made Sania change her mind within two weeks, her comments gave enough indication that things were not working out between the two.

"We were
friends for half a decade, but found ourselves incompatible during our engagement period. I wish Sohrab the best in life," Sania said.
life too is taking a beating.
